The FIFA World Cup Trophy Arrives in Mongolia

The Coca-Cola Company is an official partner of FIFA, and as part of that partnership it has taken the World Cup Trophy on tour around the world since 2006. This year the Trophy Tour is traveling to more than 50 countries for the fourth time, and today MCS Coca-Cola brought the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour to Mongolia for every football fan — a historic moment.

Representatives of MCS Coca-Cola and a media team received the Trophy with full honors at Chinggis Khaan International Airport and brought it to the pitch of the Mongolian Football Federation. The President of Mongolia attended the event, received the Trophy with honors and had photographs taken with the national team. Only the team that wins the FIFA World Cup and the head of state of the host country are permitted to touch the Trophy.

Afterwards, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Shangri-La Mall, MCS Coca-Cola gave the people of Mongolia the chance to see the trophy awarded to the winners of the World Cup with their own eyes, take photographs with it and feel as if they were at the greatest and most eagerly awaited sporting celebration in the world.

The tour began in Russia in September 2017 and runs until June 2018, covering 126,000 km across more than 50 countries on six continents in the nine months leading up to the World Cup.

About the FIFA World Cup Trophy

The original World Cup Trophy is held by FIFA and is passed to the winners of the World Cup. The current design of the Trophy dates from 1974. It is made of solid gold, weighs 6.142 kg and features two human figures holding up the globe. As the symbol and icon of the world’s most popular sport, only the winners of the World Cup and the teams made up of heads of state receiving it on the Trophy Tour are permitted to hold and touch it. FIFA’s regulations state that the World Cup Trophy must remain in FIFA’s own possession and may not be given away as a winner’s prize. The winners of the FIFA World Cup therefore hold a replica temporarily and are later awarded a replica trophy to keep permanently.
