In 1945 the United States Army ordered 500,000 pounds — about 250,000 kilograms — of powdered orange juice from the Florida Foods Corporation, which later became Vacuum Foods and then the Minute Maid Corporation. The Coca-Cola Company acquired Minute Maid in 1960, its first bold step into a business beyond sparkling drinks.
