Montorkh Are the New Champions of the 2012–2013 Sprite Super League

Held by MCS Coca-Cola together with the TLG-13 NGO under the motto Let’s Live Positively, the SPRITE LEAGUE has grown into a nationwide, year-round competition covering 75 teams and more than 1,200 players, eagerly awaited by basketball fans.

The champions of the SPRITE SUPER LEAGUE — contested by the league’s top 20 men’s and 8 women’s teams — have now been decided.
In the first game of the finals on May 18, 2013, Montorkh beat two-time Sprite Super League champions CAA Buyant-Ukhaa 73:63.

The second game of the series was played at the Central Sports Palace at 2 p.m. on May 19, 2013.
… Montorkh started the stronger of the two sides and closed the first quarter with a lead of more than 10 points. Buyant-Ukhaa played well in the second quarter to claw back the deficit and led 32:31 at the break. The two teams were evenly matched through the decisive second half, though Montorkh held a slender advantage. With 1 minute 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the score at 65:63, Buyant-Ukhaa’s Ider-Uugan had the chance to level the game from the free-throw line. He missed both free throws, and when Nyamdavaa attempted a three-pointer, a Montorkh foul gave him three free throws — he missed two and made one to bring the score to 65:64. On the counter-attack, a free throw from Batzolboo, two crucial points from Nyambayar and a long-range shot from Ligden to seal the game gave Montorkh a 71:64 win, along with the Sprite Super League championship ring, cap, shirt, gold medals and MNT 10,000,000. Runners-up CAA Buyant-Ukhaa received MNT 3,000,000 and silver medals.

Montorkh’s BATZOLBOO produced the standout performance of the game with a triple-double of 22 points, 17 rebounds and 10 steals, and was named FINALS MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, winning tickets to see the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS vs LOS ANGELES LAKERS.

Of the eight women’s teams, BAYANZURKH BULLS came out on top to become SPRITE SUPER LEAGUE champions and take the championship gold ring, medals, trophy and MNT 3,000,000, while runners-up TANAN, owned by Chinbat, received a certificate, silver medals and MNT 2,000,000.

The following awards were also presented at the closing ceremony.

• WOMEN’S FINALS MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: silver medalist at the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup,
  ALTANZAYA of NUM, BAYANZURKH BULLS /tickets to see GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS vs LOS ANGELES LAKERS/

The starting five of the season were also selected.
