Yes, they are. Mongolia uses around 18,000 tonnes of plastic packaging a year. Last year the TML plant, with a capacity to recycle 20,000 tonnes of plastic packaging annually, came into operation. The plant recycles every type of plastic marked PET, and a single plastic bottle can be recycled and reused an average of five times.

We care for and protect the environment at every step of our work.

We strive to use water as efficiently as possible.

Water makes up 85–99 per cent of our products. Implementing water stewardship programmes step by step has therefore always been one of The Coca-Cola Company’s key priorities, since water is the foundation of our business. This is how the core requirements of the Coca-Cola system’s environmental policy and our corporate value of environmentally responsible manufacturing come together.

The Coca-Cola Company requires us to return to nature the same volume of water, at the same level of purity, as we take from it. We believe we have no right to discharge the wastewater we have used directly back into the environment. That is why we became the first private-sector organization in Mongolia to commission a wastewater treatment plant that treats its own wastewater. The Coca-Cola Company’s global target is to use 1.7 liters of water to produce 1 liter of beverage, and we are meeting that target.

MCS Coca-Cola is implementing a wide range of initiatives step by step within the ESG framework — Environmental, Social and Governance.

  • MCS Coca-Cola has set a target to recycle all of the packaging it sells by 2030 and has launched the “World Without Plastic Waste” campaign. As part of this campaign we are encouraging the public to make sorting plastic packaging a habit.
  • Industrial wastewater treatment plant

To protect water resources, MCS Coca-Cola became the first company in its sector to introduce an advanced wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes of water per day. The water leaving the plant meets the Mongolian standard MNS 4943:2015 for treated wastewater discharged into the environment, and is treated to a level clean enough for fish to live in.

  • Gas-fired steam boiler

MCS Coca-Cola is the first food manufacturer in Mongolia to have completely phased out raw-coal technology and commissioned a gas-fired steam boiler.

Environmental Policy of MCS Coca-Cola

“We comply with all environmental laws, rules and regulations of Mongolia and with the environmental requirements of The Coca-Cola Company, and we work to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment around us.”
